Choosing Your First Intake For The EA888 Gen 3

An intake is usually the first "real" hardware modification an EA888 owner buys. It is also the modification most often regretted, because the loudest option in the catalogue is rarely the best one for the engine.

Open vs closed

Open cone intakes are louder. Closed-airbox intakes are faster, more consistent in summer, and will not heat-soak in traffic. If you live with the car, choose closed. If the car is a weekend toy, the trade-off is more interesting.

Filter media

Cotton-gauze filters require periodic re-oiling and can over-oil MAF sensors. Dry synthetic filters are lower-maintenance and safer for daily-driven cars.

What to ask before buying

  • 01Is the airbox sealed from engine bay heat?
  • 02Does the manufacturer publish dyno data with the OEM downpipe in place?
  • 03Is the filter media compatible with your MAF sensor?
