MQB Interior Upgrades That Actually Change The Cabin

Past the steering wheel badge: the pieces you touch every drive, and the ones that just look good in photos.

MQB Interior Upgrades That Actually Change The Cabin

Most MQB interior upgrades are sold on appearance. The ones worth fitting are sold on contact — the parts your hands and eyes meet every time you drive the car.

Start with the steering wheel

An Alcantara wheel with a centre stripe is the single most-felt upgrade in any MQB cabin. It changes the temperature of the car in your hands and, frankly, the way you drive it.

Then the shift surround

Forged carbon or anodised aluminium shift surrounds replace one of the few factory pieces that ages poorly. Done well, it looks OEM. Done badly, it looks aftermarket.

Ambient lighting, used with restraint

Retrofit ambient kits transform the cabin at night, but the trick is to leave them on a single warm colour. The factory never used twelve colours at once for a reason.

  • 01Worth fitting: Alcantara wheel, shift surround, pedal set, door pulls
  • 02Optional: ambient lighting, illuminated sill plates
  • 03Skip: plastic dash overlays, oversized badges, novelty mats
