Intake choice on an AMG is brand-specific — what works on a Golf R doesn't translate cleanly to an M139 or M177.

Sealed airbox systems win on this engine. Heat-soak from the longitudinal layout is severe.

The V8 tolerates open-cone intakes better than the four-cylinders. But the gains are smaller.
