Upgrade path
Where it fits.
Optional at Stage 1, recommended in the Stage 2 hardware pathway, mandatory on hybrid-turbo builds.
Forced Induction/Ingredient-level
Smooth-bore alloy or silicone — the upstream flow path the OEM ribbed hose chokes.
What turbo inlets do
The turbo inlet is the short piece between the airbox and the compressor housing. OEM inlets are ribbed plastic or silicone — quiet, cheap, and noticeably restrictive once airflow demand climbs. A smooth-bore alloy or reinforced silicone inlet removes the restriction, smooths flow into the compressor wheel, and on the IS38-equipped MQB platform delivers a clear measured gain as part of the broader hardware pathway.

Platform relevance
Biggest impact on EA888 Gen 3 & Gen 4 (IS38), EA855 Evo, B58 and S58 — all run restrictive OEM inlet pipes.
